Verisae— Environmental
Compliance Manager at a Multi-Site Retailer
“Making it over the hurdles the EPA puts out there for me to demonstrate compliance with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act every day is one of my greatest challenges as the Director of Environmental at a large chain of supermarkets. I am constantly looking for new and innovative ways to monitor and track asset performance particularly when it comes to the leakage of refrigerants relating to HCFCs and CFCs. The dollars expended by my company for being out of compliance with Section 608 could hit our maintenance budget… and bottom line hard. All eyes are on me when looking for the guy who is responsible for the fines. One of the many hats that I wear is ‘Refrigerant Manager.’
Managing use of refrigerant is a good policy regardless of government regulations since replacement refrigerant is expensive.
Have you noticed how much refrigerant costs today? A process for monitoring and maintaining detailed records for all assets containing refrigerants, and significantly, those that might leak ozone depleting chemicals translates directly into increased profit margins…and that is good for everyone!
Verisae’s Enterprise Refrigerant Manager
tool has been the answer to our needs.
The web-based system relies on contractors and retailers together. Contractors identify the details of the leak, the identity of the asset, the nature of leak or damage, the levels of refrigerant lost and replaced and whether a repair was made or attempted. All of this data, from the onset of the event, is communicated through the internet facilitated by Verisae’s software. Not only that, but this amazing management tool calculates and maintains such data as the current leak rate for that particular asset as well as a 12 month rolling average leak rate with regard to
refrigerant containing assets that the supermarket owns. Being able to tap into this information at any given time has proven to be invaluable to my company and me. Now, not only am I able to see exactly which stores are in compliance, that is, within acceptable leakage limits, I am also able to compare costs associated with the repair and maintenance of these assets across the board. The generation of the records or documentation that the government requires to evidence compliance is merely a click away.
Most significantly, I am able to see which stores are approaching unacceptable limits and, because of that, I have been able to successfully implement a system for catching those assets before they cross over unacceptable lines. What does that mean to my company? Money in the bank, EPA fine avoidance, and one less challenge for me! |
