American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act Addresses Climate Change
ACES Act and the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
A new act focusing on energy production expands its focus nationwide which would compel utilities across the country to reassess their production processes. The recent passage of the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act) by the House of Representatives requires utility companies to use more renewable sources of energy which might increase commitments as implemented through 2050.
Those who are in support of the ACES Act hold that this is a significant step towards reducing carbon footprint and significantly curtailing the impacts of climate change. The goal is to make electricity production with the use of alternative sources of energy like wind, waste reproduction, geothermal, solar, and biofuel hit 20% of the total electricity production by the year 2020.
A cap and trade system is proposed for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This system will be introduced in consideration of the companies which are allowed to trade their excess allowances on emissions. The ACES Act has a declining cap on emissions for all companies.
Reduction of greenhouse gases means reducing reliance by major companies on fuels that are non-renewable which has high carbon emissions. This reduction translates to an equivalent of taking 500 million cars off the road and is proposed to be fully achieved in the year 2020.
American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act Fosters Enterprise to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Also know as Waxman/Markey who are the two sponsors of the bill in the house, the Aces ACT calls for payment of benefits and tax credits which is to be passed directly to consumers through the utility companies. There is a very high anticipation of valuable investments in clean energy technology as well as openings of job opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
With the passages of the ACES Act, decision makers in companies are now on their toes and are looking ways to use the cap and trade allowances in the provision to the best effect in the future. In fact, the more forward looking companies are now seeking help on energy management initiatives with the use of special software programs designed for enterprise energy management. These automated programs will be able to help companies reduce greenhouse gas emissions through providing information which can be analyzed for tracking and monitoring carbon emissions.
Companies are now more driven to lower carbon emissions and reduction of greenhouse gases with the passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. It won a narrow vote in the House of Representatives in the first hurdle. However, the Act now heads to the Senate for possible modifications before it shall return to the House towards the signing of President Obama.
