Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership Reveals Significant Potential
A significant initiative emerged from the Clean Energy Ministerial meetings in Washington in mid-July. This initiative is likely to be as significant as the groundbreaking LEED certification for building efficiency. The Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership is aimed at accelerating energy efficiency improvements in a number of different commercial and industrial facilities.
On a global scale, building account for around 60% of energy and associated carbon emissions. Thus, any initiative that targets improving building energy efficiency has the potential to make a large impact on global emissions. The program is internationally backed and funding is available from a variety of countries including the United States, which fully supports the launch of the new program.

In addition to the United States, Canada, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Korea, South Africa, Russia, Sweden and the European commission (as an entity) have come together to back the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership. The strength of this initiative is in its global collaboration.
To get things moving, a number of independent corporations have stepped up to the plate to become partners in the pilot scheme. Target, Wal-Mart, Marriott, Dow Chemical Co. and Nisson have all volunteered to act as pilot participants for the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership. In addition to the $3 million contributed by the United States government, the companies will also invest their own resources to launch the project. The pilot companies will share their knowledge with other participants and the overall findings will enable the construction of consolidated certification standards in the future.
Global Energy Performance Partnership on Energy Consumption Reduction
The Global Superior Energy Performance partnership focuses on cutting energy use, reducing carbon emissions, saving money and creating jobs. This will be achieved through the creation of a certification standard that will be applicable to facilities globally. Once adopted, building and facility owners and operators must conform to the standard by managing their energy use and introducing efficiency improvements. All of the improvements need to be independently validated.
Fundamentally, an energy management system is at the core of the Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership. This begins with the creation of a baseline inventory that allows building and facility owners to see what their current environmental impact is and set goals for where they should be.
Software Solutions for Global Energy Performance
