Penn Traffic Experienced Project Payback in Less Than 10 Months during Pilot with the Grocery Retailer’s Reduced in Energy Costs Up To 24%

Download Press Release

Minneapolis, October 22, 2009 – Verisae announced Penn Traffic, a leading food retailer in the eastern United States with over 80 stores, to deploy its Energy management solution in more than 48 additional stores in order to capture cost savings through improved energy efficiency. It is expected the expanded roll-out will reduce carbon emissions by 5,500 MT Co2 in total. Penn Traffic anticipates leveraging the Verisae energy management solutions to empower further operational improvements.

“We are pleased with the Penn Traffic results, and are excited to expand the program and build upon past successes,” said Dr. Abtar Singh, Vice President of Energy Services. “Our client is benefiting from the Smart Grid platform by helping them to manage multiple sites across diverse geographical footprint. The software and energy solution provides immediate energy savings, as well as a platform to actively participate in future Smart Grid initiatives.”

This project again confirms the results experienced by other Verisae clients. Based on real-time energy data monitoring coupled with verification via utility bill processing, the data has indicated a substantial reduction in energy usage and expenditures. Verisae implemented the energy management solutions in a selection of Penn Traffic stores via their Software as a Service (SaaS) model.

Energy Advantage Inc., an independent energy audit firm, working with Karabus retail management consultant, coordinated the pilot energy analysis and validated the results. Kuldeep Saxena, principal energy consultant with Energy Advantage, said, “This initial program proved beneficial for all parties and we were happy to validate the results. Verisae’s open Web-based systems architecture optimizes store energy operation, giving Penn Traffic an ideal platform for improved efficiency and cost reduction.”
